Moscow introduced a wide import ban from Armenia after recent pest detections, raising concerns about cross-border trade disruptions.
From June 12, Russia has imposed a ban on the import of quarantine-restricted products from Armenia or those arriving from there, according to Rosselkhoznadzor on June 11.
The regulator explained that since May 2026 the restrictions were introduced gradually in stages, and in June three cases of infestation by the walnut weevil were recorded on Armenian walnuts, dried peaches, and dried tomatoes.
According to data, the Eurasian Economic Union’s quarantine products list comprises about 130 items.
The essence of the restrictions and their scope
The measures cover almost the entire range of agricultural products, as well as flour, plants, timber, livestock feed, and raw materials for the textile industry.
Earlier, the Russian authorities, reacting to Yerevan’s rapprochement with the EU, banned imports from Armenia to Russia of various vegetables, fruits, fish and fish products, flowers, the mineral water “Djemruk” and alcoholic beverages.
Yerevan responded that it would sell to the European Union Armenian goods that had been banned from entering Russia.
Such restrictions could affect trade between the countries and will require further monitoring of market conditions.
