Maersk Introduces Export and Import Fuel Surcharges on Inland Routes – News and Statistics

Maersk has announced the introduction of an export fuel surcharge and an import fuel surcharge, each set at 5% of the base price, according to a recent update from the shipping line. The surcharges will apply to all inland routes and are scheduled to take effect on May 27, 2026.

As reported by container-news.com, the company cited rising global fuel prices—intensified by the ongoing geopolitical situation in West Asia—as the reason for the adjustment. Maersk noted that fuel costs constitute a significant portion of line-haul expenses and that the sharp upward trend in prices is directly impacting service delivery costs across its logistics network.

The surcharges are designed to partially offset the increase in operating expenses while allowing the carrier to maintain service continuity and reliability. They cover all inland haulage routes without exception.
