Visakhapatnam Port Handles Nearly Half Of India’s Seafood Exports As Andhra Pushes ODOP Products

The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has retained its central position in India’s marine trade, contributing 48.89 per cent of the country’s overall seafood exports in 2025-26, according to details placed before Parliament by the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Responding to a Lok Sabha query raised by MPs Prabhakar Reddy Vemireddy and CM Ramesh on how the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme is being carried out in Andhra Pradesh, the Ministry drew on figures from the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) to note that the port had made up 50.87 per cent of the nation’s seafood exports in 2024-25.

During 2023-24, marine shipments routed through Visakhapatnam Port stood at USD 2.19 billion against India’s total seafood exports of USD 7.38 billion, amounting to a share of just 29.67 per cent.

The Ministry shared these numbers while listing the steps taken to push products chosen under the ODOP programme in the state.

As part of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) initiative, Andhra Pradesh has picked 99 products spread across its 26 districts, made up of 26 primary, 26 secondary, 21 tertiary and 26 category products.

Of these, Udayagiri Wooden Cutlery and Paturu Cotton Silk Sarees have been marked from SPSR Nellore district, while Etikoppaka Lacquerware, Palm Leaf products and Payakaraopeta Silk Sarees have been chosen from Anakapalli district.
